Well, my wife and I went to the Springsteen concert Saturday night. This was the first time either of us had seen him live. I like him, don't get me wrong, but my wife is the Springsteen mark in our house.

Now for me personally, I really enjoyed the show. He went about 2:15, I realize he used to go over 4 but even I couldn't handle that much (and he's 58, I doubt he could do it). For a band their age, their sound and energy, I thought, were outstanding. Plus, it's not like he ever wrote teeny-bopper songs even when he was young, so I don't look at it like he's some over-the-hill geezer or anything like that (as is the case with bands like Poison).

As successful as he has been over the years, I've often wondered why you don't hear that much about him. Even in the glory days (no pun intended), it seemed like there was this "under the radar" aspect to him. The only thing I can conclude, and I'd never really thought about this before, but he doesn't exactly have a lot of happy songs. It seems like every song is ambivalent at best, or down right depressing at worst. I always hated the "Dancin' in the Dark" video, because he's all happy and smiling, dancing with Monica, but the lyrics to that song are anything but cheerful. Obviously it's a message that has sold, a lot of people have bought into it.

He was, as you put it, "under the radar" because he's from NEW JERSEY! Who ever wanted to hear about New Jersey?

And don't dis Poison. We have a friend who just named his brand new son after someone in Poison. (I don't know the band, so I'm not sure which of the reprobates John chose; newest addition is called Bret Michael.)

Now, please let me point out that your post and opinions are age-ist. Just because what's-his-name is 58, that doesn't make him old. Don't you know that 60 is the new 40?

Gae- I never said that chicks in their 50s still couldn't be hot. Look at all the jpegs of you that I keep- I mean, women today look great at all ages. Even to this day, my wife said that the one guy she can cheat on me with is Brett Favre. Hence, I get one chick that I can cheat on her with. And it's the same chick now (even in her late 50s) as it has been for ever since I was a kid- Erica Kane (no, not Susan Lucci; Erica Kane. There's a difference).

Greg- I loved the Boss Man, he was a guy who brought it every night (a lot of them don't). But he passed away a few years back, yet another on the ever-growing list of wrestlers who die way too early.

And I guess here was my one complaint about the concert. I'm looking over and there are these two guys, they looked like they were in their 40s. OK the whole show (at least every time I kept looking over at them), the one dude was playing air guitar. And I mean, he was in to it, he had fingerings and chord changes, the whole works. My man standing next to him was doing air drums the whole night, including cybal crashes (I couldn't see his feet, but I presume he was doing foot pedal). OK that might be cute to see a couple of little kids doing that. But guys going through mid-life crisis? Are you kidding me?

OK suppose the LewMan went over there and joined them. You know, in homage to Clarence Clemmons, I start playing Air Saxophone. OK that would look ridiculous, wouldn't it? Um, yeah it would. SO HOW COME SECURITY DIDN'T ESCORT THOSE KNUCKLEHEADS OUT OF THE BUILDING? Seriously, I think it's illegal to do that in public over a certain age (and if not, it should be). I'm all for people having a good time and dancing and what-not. But this was absurd beyond absurd. Yes, I've played air guitar, there's no one on this board who hasn't (other than possibly LanD, I can just see him playing air keyboard, but guitar is probably below him). But not in public. Not for 2 hours non-stop. AND MOST DEFINITELY NOT WITH CHORD CHANGES.

Lew, in the case of the air band brothers, your only option was to video them and then post it on You Tube for the world to see.

Hopefully the air musicians will see it too (forwarded in an email from an angry estranged relative) and see how silly they look.

OK normally, Greg, that would cause me to have a hemorhage...I mean, my man put on the strap, he turned up the amplifier, he's letting the band know what key he wants.....

Except, it is an air guitar contest, so I guess I can tolerate it. Barely, but I can tolerate it.

Now for my morning dose of Xenophobia...what's with the Asians taking over all of our worst contests? It's bad enough that your boy Kobayashi wins the hot dog eating contest every 4th of July on ESPN (I mean, I think I could eat 4 hot dogs on my best day, and that would make me sick, and Kobayashi eats like 50 of them in 10 minutes or something). Now they're destroying us in air guitar. We need to stop them now, or else pretty soon their frogs are going to out-jump ours at the Iowa State Fair....
